Illegal Contraband Intercepted at Suva Corrections Center

An attempted throw-in of illegal contraband at the Suva Corrections center was thwarted this morning, leading to the seizure of a significant package of illicit items. The intercepted contraband included 17 rolls of marijuana, two sachets of methamphetamine crystals, and 45 rolls of 'suki,' a type of tobacco.

In addition to drugs, the package contained multiple mobile phones, a charging cable, a gas lighter, and an assortment of snacks, chocolates, and chewing gum. The attempted smuggling was captured on CCTV cameras, which recorded the suspects and their vehicle.

Acting Commissioner of Corrections Auta Moceisuva condemned the act, emphasizing that such attempts directly undermine the rehabilitation efforts for inmates. "This is a prime example of the lack of support from members of the public who continue to fuel this illegal activity," Moceisuva stated. He confirmed that the culprits have been identified through security systems and CCTV footage, and authorities are collaborating with the Fiji Police Force to bring them to justice.
