Imintanout court sentences married woman and young man to prison for adultery case

A court in Imintanout sentenced a married woman to eight months in prison and a single man to four months in a case involving adultery and participation in the offense.

The woman, who has three children, appeared before prosecutors on Aug. 26 with three other people after her husband filed a complaint. Prosecutors ordered her detention on suspicion of adultery and arrested the single man, who sells olives, on suspicion of participating in the offense.

Two other suspects were released. They included a man known as “Didiji” and a mechanic working on Mohammed V Street, after their wives withdrew proceedings against them.

The woman lives in a village belonging to the Saïdats commune in Chichaoua province. Her husband had accused her of having illicit relationships with several people.
