Moroccan gendarmes shut down illegal alcohol distillery near Laayoune and seize more than 1,200 liters

Royal Gendarmerie officers in Laayoune have shut down a clandestine workshop used to distill alcohol in the Tadakhst area, within the territory of Boukraâ commune. The operation seized nearly 1,200 liters of alcohol.

Initial information indicated that the alcohol was intended for illegal sale in Laayoune. Specialized authorities have opened procedures to determine how the operation was organized and identify those connected to it.

The raid forms part of a series of security operations targeting similar activities in the area. Authorities previously seized about 2,000 liters in one operation and 7,000 liters in another, bringing the combined total from the three raids to roughly 10,200 liters.

The ongoing investigation, conducted under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office, is expected to establish who may have been involved, where the production materials came from and where the seized quantities were due to be distributed.
