In front of police, thief steals seized moped

Police in Ljubljana, Slovenia, encountered a chaotic scene Tuesday evening involving reckless youths on mopeds and motorcycles. Responding to calls about dangerous riding in Domžale, officers attempted to stop several young riders, but some ignored police signals and continued to flee.

During the processing of the traffic accident and the vehicle seizure procedure, a large group of adolescents gathered nearby, which an unknown perpetrator took advantage of, sat on the seized motorcycle, started it in a way that is currently undetermined, and drove away.

During one attempted stop, a minor on a moped crashed into a police motorcycle while trying to escape. Although no one was injured, the moped sustained minor damage. Police discovered the rider was underage, operating an unregistered moped, and lacked a valid license. They seized the vehicle and planned to issue a citation.

In a brazen act, while police were processing the first incident and seizing the moped, an unknown person seized the opportunity. This individual managed to start the confiscated moped and drive away. Police are now investigating this as a grand theft, working to identify the suspect and understand the circumstances.

We again warn that such behavior is very dangerous. Fleeing from police, driving without a license, driving unregistered or technically inadequate vehicles, and disregarding lawful orders from police officers can lead to serious traffic accidents with the most severe consequences at any time.

A similar incident occurred in Trbovlje, where officers tried to stop a moped with two unhelmeted riders. The driver refused to stop, and when he finally slowed, the police officer attempting to apprehend the passenger fell and was slightly injured as the driver sped off again. Both riders face charges, and their parents have been notified.
