Incheon records first heat-related death of the year amid ongoing heatwave

Incheon has recorded its first heat-related death of the year as a 40-year-old man succumbed to heatstroke while hospitalized. The man was discovered wandering on a street in Gyeyang-gu early Tuesday morning and was immediately transported to a hospital by emergency services.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the man's body temperature was 38.8°C. Despite receiving medical attention, his temperature continued to rise, reaching 40.8°C shortly after admission and peaking at 41.3°C later that morning. Doctors attempted to manage his condition in the intensive care unit, but he passed away early Wednesday morning due to complications from heatstroke.

Incheon has been under a heatwave advisory since July 24. The city experienced high temperatures on Tuesday, with the highest recorded temperature reaching 33.4°C and the perceived temperature hitting 34.2°C. As of Wednesday morning, Incheon has reported a total of 92 cases of heat-related illnesses. Of these, 22 individuals remain hospitalized, while 69 have been discharged after treatment.
