Indecopi urges checks on over 900 BMW, Hyundai, and Land Rover vehicles for safety flaws

Peru's consumer protection agency, Indecopi, has issued a consumer alert, recommending that owners of over 900 vehicles from BMW, Hyundai, and Land Rover verify potential safety defects. The agency is urging owners to contact the manufacturers for inspections to prevent risks to occupants.

The alert involves 704 BMW vehicles across various models (Series 2, 3, 4, 5, X3, X4, and Z4) reported by Inchcape Motors Peru. These vehicles may have an ignition system component that could wear out, leading to overheating from short circuits and, in extreme cases, a fire hazard.

Automotores Gildemeister Peru has recalled 192 units of the Hyundai New Tucson NX4 HEV, manufactured between 2024 and 2026. The issue lies in a potential fault within the collision prevention system, which could cause the vehicle to brake abruptly, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions.

Additionally, 73 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque models, from 2020 to 2025, are subject to a recall by Maquinaria Nacional S.A.C. Peru. These vehicles might have a defect in the passenger side airbag, which could rupture upon deployment due to an installation error. This could compromise passenger protection during an accident and potentially release hot gases causing burns.
