India expands e-Visa network, adding 11 new entry points

India has expanded its e-Visa network by adding 11 new international ports, bringing the total number of entry points to 88. The Union home ministry announced the inclusion of locations like Attari on the India-Pakistan border and Moreh in Manipur. This expansion encompasses 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports.

The addition of 11 international ports further enhances the attractiveness and utility of electronic Visas.

The move aligns with the new Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, consolidating various entry-exit points under a unified framework. The government stated that this initiative enhances the utility of electronic Visas and aims to liberalize and simplify the visa regime for legitimate foreign travelers.

The government has taken a number of significant initiatives over the last few years to liberalise, streamline and simplify visa regime with a view to facilitate the legitimate foreign travelers while simultaneously ramping up the technological infrastructure to enhance internal security.

Officials highlighted that the updated list provides clarity for travelers and standardizes immigration facilities across different entry modes. The ministry also noted that approximately 95% of e-Visa applications are processed within 72 hours. The e-Visa facility, introduced in 2014, is currently available to nationals of 172 countries across 17 categories.
