India-Israel ties will bloom amid Middle East's new Mecca Pact - analysis

A recent phone call between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to have been a direct response to a significant regional security realignment. The leaders exchanged views on "recent developments in West Asia" and reviewed progress on the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership.

This conversation occurred just before Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey signed a sweeping mutual defense treaty, dubbed the "Mecca Pact," in Mecca. The pact notably includes a NATO-style Article 5 clause, meaning an attack on one signatory is considered an attack on all. This development signals a growing trend of regional powers making their own security arrangements, particularly as the U.S. presence and commitment in the region are perceived as wavering.
