India urges citizens to consider leaving Iran amid escalating regional tensions

The Indian Embassy in Iran has issued a stark advisory, urging its citizens to postpone travel to the country and to consider temporarily leaving due to a deteriorating security situation. The embassy's post on X on Sunday detailed an increase in instability and conflict, advising that "Indian nationals intending to travel to Iran for any purpose should postpone travel for the time being, until the security environment improves."

For those already in Iran, the embassy recommended considering temporary departure using available flight options. It stressed that Indian nationals who choose to remain must exercise extreme caution, closely monitor news for situational awareness, and avoid areas with significant military activity, particularly along the southern coast. Compliance with local authorities' instructions was also emphasized.

This advisory coincides with a significant escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, marked by fresh military operations across West Asia. Reports indicate US attacks on Iranian nuclear power plant infrastructure and military assets, met with Tehran's retaliatory drone strikes against Washington's allies. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed it is investigating an overnight attack on the under-construction nuclear power plant in Darkhovin, Khuzestan province, though it stated the facility was in early construction stages and posed no radiological risk. The agency urged military restraint near all nuclear-related sites.
