Indian Driver Accused of Forged License, Causing Severe Crash in Latvia Seeks Compensation

A court in Latvia is examining the case of an Indian national accused of causing a serious traffic accident while using a forged driver's license. The victims of the February incident are demanding 150,000 euros in compensation for their injuries.

The accused, identified as Jatinder Singh, faces charges for violating traffic rules, resulting in moderate and severe injuries to bus passengers and the driver. The bus driver suffered traumatic amputation of both lower legs. Singh is also charged with using a counterfeit document that granted him driving privileges.

According to the prosecution, Singh was driving a truck with Lithuanian license plates on an icy road when he failed to heed a stop sign and entered an intersection at approximately 50 km/h, colliding with an oncoming bus. He allegedly purchased a fraudulent UAE-issued driver's license and presented it to police after the crash. Singh admits to causing the accident but denies driving without a license.
