Indigenous child allegedly sexually abused in Chiapas; prosecutor opens investigation

Chiapas authorities have launched an investigation after a video emerged online allegedly showing the sexual abuse of a young boy from the indigenous Chol ethnic group in the municipality of Sabanilla. The video, which circulated widely on social media, reportedly depicts two men assaulting the child while a third films the act.

The State Attorney General's Office confirmed it initiated a criminal investigation, deploying a multidisciplinary team to Sabanilla to ascertain the facts and bring those responsible to justice. The footage appears to show the child resisting and speaking in the Chol language while the men engage in the assault, seemingly in a rural, open area.

Despite the graphic nature of the video, which has reportedly been censored on some platforms, a man identified as Rully Sanz Hernández claimed to be the first to upload it. He asserted that the incident was a misunderstanding and that the individuals involved were merely playing, not harming the child. Hernández stated that the video was a "news item" being circulated among the Chol community.

However, a source within the state government affirmed that the alleged sexual abuse is real, validating the prosecutor's office's decision to proceed with the investigation. The Attorney General's Office reiterated its commitment to ensuring no impunity for acts that violate the integrity of children and adolescents.
