Indonesia and Thailand Launch New Direct Flights to Boost Ties and Tourism

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the launch of a new direct flight route between Indonesia and Thailand, emphasizing its potential to significantly enhance connections between citizens and bolster regional tourism. The new service links Jakarta with Bangkok and Denpasar with Phuket. This expansion of air connectivity is underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Indonesian airline TransNusa. During a joint press conference in Jakarta, President Prabowo highlighted the route's role in strengthening bilateral relations. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul noted that the new routes, particularly between Phuket and Bali, will focus on key tourism segments like wellness, cruises, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions). Beyond aviation, the countries are also deepening private sector cooperation, including a MoU for organic waste processing and the adoption of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030. Thai businesses express strong confidence in Indonesia's economic prospects and are eager to engage in long-term partnerships across various sectors, including fisheries, food processing, agriculture, energy, halal economy, and digital services.
