Indonesia distributes over 214,000 liters of clean water to earthquake-affected Flores residents

Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works is actively working to meet the essential needs of communities impacted by recent earthquakes on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo reported that as of August 27, 2026, a substantial 214,000 liters of clean water have been distributed to 21,740 individuals across several affected regencies: Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai, East Manggarai, and Ngada.

This clean water supply initiative began on August 19 and has systematically reached various locations crucial for the displaced population. The distribution efforts encompass evacuation posts, health centers, educational institutions, places of worship, government buildings, and residential neighborhoods. Minister Hanggodo emphasized that ensuring access to clean water is a top priority during the emergency response, directly impacting public health and the resumption of daily life.

The ministry is diligently assessing and addressing damaged infrastructure while ensuring a continuous supply of clean water throughout the emergency period. To expand its reach, the ministry has deployed 12 water tank trucks and 27 public hydrants, particularly to evacuation sites and areas where water systems were compromised by the tremors.

In Manggarai Regency, two water tank trucks are serving the Golo Conggo and Barangkolong evacuation posts, providing water for 1,890 people. Additionally, five 2,000-liter public hydrants have been installed. East Manggarai has received support with four water tank trucks and 17 public hydrants. The ministry is also working with local authorities to identify and repair damage to water supply systems, such as a broken transmission pipe in Lamba Leda Utara and ongoing repairs to the Kota Komba water system.
