Indonesia: NTT Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 103

The death toll from the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, has climbed to 103, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The latest figures, released during a press conference on Tuesday, indicate an increase of three fatalities from the previous day.

Manggarai Regency has been the hardest-hit area, reporting 41 deaths. East Manggarai follows with 34 fatalities. Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of BNPB's Data, Information, and Communication Center, noted that females constitute 55 percent of the deceased, while males make up 45 percent. The elderly accounted for 45 percent of the fatalities, with adults at 37 percent, and children and adolescents at 12 percent.

In addition to the fatalities, the earthquake has resulted in 1,666 injuries. East Manggarai has the highest number of injured victims, with 239 severely injured and 404 lightly injured. Manggarai Regency reported 58 severely injured and 474 lightly injured individuals. The number of displaced persons has also surged, reaching a total of 185,113 individuals seeking refuge across various regencies.

Relief efforts are in progress, with Indonesia dispatching 31 tons of aid to the affected region. The aid is being distributed through Labuan Bajo and Maumere. Meanwhile, a community in West Papua has raised Rp167.6 million to assist the earthquake victims in Flores.
