Indonesia opens registration for 2026 high school academic ability test

The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikdasmen) has opened the registration for the 2026 Academic Ability Test (TKA) for high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK), Islamic high school (MA), and equivalent levels. The registration window is open from July 27 to September 27, 2026, with the primary TKA examinations set to take place between October 26 and November 8, 2026.

The TKA serves as a standardized national measure of academic achievement, with its results used as a factor in selecting students for further education and providing insights into student learning outcomes. Rahmawati, Head of the Assessment Center for Education, stated that this year's TKA preparation has been extended compared to previous years, aiming for a more refined and prepared execution. The 2026 TKA is presented as an improvement over last year's, incorporating feedback from evaluations to enhance policies and operational procedures.

This year, we hope to be better and more prepared to welcome the Academic Ability Test registration period because the implementation time is longer.

Several changes have been implemented for the 2026 TKA. The schedule is now organized so that participants will only take one mandatory subject test per day, with the duration for each test extended to 75 minutes to allow for more optimal completion. For SMK students, the number of vocational subjects has been increased to 50, categorized by program of expertise. Participants with residual data issues can still register but are urged to rectify their data promptly.

Kemendikdasmen also plans to enhance the supervision of the TKA implementation by involving more universities and integrating it with the National Assessment (AN) for greater efficiency and quality. Toni Toharudin, Head of the Center for Basic and Secondary Education Policy, emphasized that these improvements reflect the government's commitment to delivering high-quality and integrity-driven assessments. He encouraged prospective participants to prepare thoroughly and adhere to all stipulated procedures.
