Indonesia plans new entity to replace oil and gas regulator SKK Migas

Indonesia is moving towards a significant restructuring of its oil and gas regulatory framework with plans to establish a dedicated business entity that will assume the responsibilities currently held by SKK Migas. This proposed change is a key component of the draft Oil and Gas Bill (RUU Migas) that is currently under legislative review.

According to Eddy Soeparno, Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), the new legislation specifically outlines the formation of this specialized business entity. Its primary objective will be to take over the functions and operational duties of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), the agency responsible for overseeing the upstream oil and gas sector.

The move is expected to bring about changes in how Indonesia manages its vital energy resources. While the specifics of the new entity's structure and operational mandate are still being detailed within the bill, the intention is to create a more efficient and potentially more effective system for managing the nation's oil and gas industry.
