Indonesia probes international drug ring after Russians arrested in Bali

Indonesian authorities are actively investigating an international drug trafficking network following the arrest of two Russian nationals in Bali. The suspects were apprehended with approximately 7.8 kilograms of narcotics. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) stated that this arrest is merely the first step in dismantling a larger operation.

Commissioner General Putu Putera Sadana, Head of the BNN's Public Relations Bureau, confirmed the ongoing investigation involves a collaborative effort between the BNN, Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Indonesian National Police, and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections. He stressed that the case is still developing, and further information will be released as more suspects or evidence are uncovered.

Investigators are meticulously examining the network's distribution channels, the origin of the narcotics, and the roles of all suspected participants. Sadana emphasized the importance of a scientific approach, relying on data and facts rather than speculation. The BNN is committed to combating illicit drug trafficking, particularly networks involving foreign nationals, and is proceeding in accordance with Indonesian law.

The operation began after Soekarno-Hatta Customs and Excise flagged a suitcase containing marijuana from Thailand, carried by one of the arrested Russian nationals. The suspect was reportedly en route to Bali. The joint operation highlights the state's dedication to tackling international drug smuggling.
