Indonesia's Attorney General Appoints New Senior Officials, Kuntadi Named Special Crimes Chief

Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin has appointed a new slate of senior officials within the Attorney General's Office, notably naming Kuntadi as the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). The reshuffle also includes Asep Nana Mulyana as Deputy Attorney General, Leonardo Eben Ezer Simanjuntak as Junior Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum), Harli Siregar as Head of the Legal Education and Training Center, Patris Yusrian Jaya as Head of the Asset Recovery Agency, and Hermon Dekristo as Special Advisor for Political, Security, and Law Enforcement Affairs.

These appointments occur amid heightened scrutiny of the Attorney General's Office. The institution has faced public attention following allegations of corruption against the former Jampidsus, Febrie Adriansyah. In this context, Burhanuddin emphasized the need for continued synergy and coordination across all divisions. He specifically instructed the newly appointed officials to support the implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and the new Criminal Code (KUHP).

Addressing Kuntadi directly, Burhanuddin urged him to ensure that current dynamics do not disrupt the ongoing handling of corruption cases. He tasked the new Jampidsus with consolidating internally and revitalizing the spirit and courage of the "Gedung Bundar" – the nickname for the Jampidsus office. The Attorney General stressed that all corruption cases must be prosecuted independently, objectively, transparently, without discrimination, and free from any external intervention or pressure.

Burhanuddin concluded his remarks by reminding the newly appointed officials of the solemnity of their oath. "The oath of office is not only accountable to the law and the state but also to Almighty God," he stated. "Remember, never risk the institution's honor and public trust for personal gain."
