Indonesia's B50 Biodiesel Program Accelerates Energy Self-Sufficiency, Says Deputy Minister

Indonesia's Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono emphasized the B50 biodiesel program as a key strategy for accelerating national energy self-sufficiency. This initiative directly supports President Prabowo Subianto's broader vision for energy independence by leveraging domestic resources.

Sudaryono stated that President Prabowo desires swift results, with large programs executed rapidly to yield tangible impacts. He asserted that Indonesia's potential for food self-sufficiency must become a reality, and similarly, energy self-sufficiency must be achieved. The B50 program and Indonesia's success in food self-sufficiency serve as prime examples of this vision in action, with the "best fast result" (BFR) approach being central to executing national strategic programs.

The minister explained that President Prabowo aims to make Indonesia a self-reliant nation by harnessing all its potential, from natural resources and agricultural land to national energy. The successful implementation of B50 demonstrates Indonesia's capability to optimize its agricultural sector for energy security. This policy means Indonesia no longer relies on imported diesel fuel, as half of its biodiesel needs are met by palm oil produced domestically.

Sudaryono drew a parallel to the nation's experience with food security, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the global food crisis highlighted the necessity for each country to prioritize its own citizens' needs, prompting Indonesia to work towards food self-sufficiency. This experience, he said, paved the way for strengthening energy self-sufficiency. The BFR concept, he reiterated, is President Prabowo's primary approach to executing strategic programs, ensuring that national potential is not merely discussed but actively realized through swift, measurable, and impactful actions.
