Indonesia’s home affairs minister praises CNN Indonesia as partner for regional local-government awards

Indonesia’s Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian praised CNN Indonesia for its role in organizing the 2026 Outstanding Local Governments Appreciation Awards for the Kalimantan region.

The event, held at Balikpapan’s Platinum Convention Hall on Thursday night, was organized by the Home Affairs Ministry, with the Institute of Domestic Government serving as the organizer. Tito said the awards had been presented effectively and had gained public attention.

“I also saw that the event schedule was good, the performances were good, and the hosts were also good,” Tito said. Benni Irwan, head of the ministry’s information center, also thanked CNN Indonesia for helping oversee the event through its conclusion. “Of course, we hope that at future events we can always work hand in hand,” he said.

Irwan said many local governments had officials with creative ideas who could produce distinctive initiatives and bring change to their regions. IPDN rector Halilul Khairi said future events should focus more strongly on encouraging local governments to improve public services, adding that government policies should prioritize residents’ welfare.

The ceremony honored 32 local governments across categories covering waste management and environmental quality, access to and quality of health services, a program for three million decent homes, and residents’ access to education. Halilul also praised CNN Indonesia’s work as the event’s media partner, saying the network had handled the event’s arrangements well.
