Indonesia’s House panel expels Jababeka representative and objects to absence of top executive

Commission XII of Indonesia’s House of Representatives expelled a Jababeka representative from a hearing in Jakarta after the company again failed to send its president director to address a dispute over an industrial wastewater pipeline.

The hearing followed a complaint from PT Mastertama Adhi Propertindo and formed part of the commission’s work with the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Control Agency. Jababeka’s president director, Setyono Djuandi Darmono, did not attend. The company instead sent Didik Purbadi, president director of its subsidiary, Jababeka Infrastruktur.

Bambang also raised what he called serious irregularities involving the alleged manipulation of environmental laboratory results. He said changing laboratory findings would constitute a serious violation and undermine Indonesia’s law-enforcement system. “Imagine, laboratory results can be changed. Even the deputy for environmental law enforcement is confused. The laboratory’s credibility is at stake,” he said.

Purbadi said Jababeka Infrastruktur would cooperate with the next summons. The hearing then continued with Mastertama’s president director and Rizal Irawan, deputy for environmental law enforcement, while Jababeka’s representatives were absent.
