Indonesia's KAI adds trains for Islamic New Year holiday travel surge

To manage the anticipated increase in travelers during the upcoming Islamic New Year holiday, Indonesia's state-owned railway company, KAI, has introduced three additional train services operating out of Yogyakarta. The holiday, marking 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah, falls on June 16, 2026, and is expected to see a significant rise in passenger numbers for tourism, visiting family, and business purposes.

KAI Regional Operational 6 in Yogyakarta is operating these extra services to meet the public's transportation needs. The additional trains include the Batavia Tambahan service (Solo Balapan to Gambir, round trip), the Sancaka Fakultatif service (Yogyakarta to Surabaya Gubeng, round trip), and another service from Yogyakarta to Gambir (round trip).
