Indonesia's KPK awaits case review on free meal program graft probe

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is awaiting a crucial case review to decide how to proceed with its investigation into alleged corruption within President Prabowo Subianto's flagship free nutritious meal program. The KPK has been conducting a preliminary investigation, but the Attorney General's Office has already launched its own inquiry into the same program.

Achmad Taufik Husein, the acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, stated that existing laws prevent dual investigations. The KPK is now waiting for a decision from its leadership to determine the best course of action, whether to merge its findings with the Attorney General's Office or proceed independently. "We will develop it for the investigation process, whether that data will be given to the prosecutor's office, we will wait for the results of the case review, whatever the leadership decides," Husein said.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Office has already named former Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, and two former Deputy Heads, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung, as suspects in a separate investigation. Their probe, which began in 2025-2026, focuses on alleged mismanagement of the program, including the suspected buying and selling of service points, which allegedly caused state financial losses and benefited certain parties. The Attorney General's Office is still investigating the flow of funds and other individuals involved.
