Indonesia's Presidential Body Confirms Prabowo's Visit Limited to France

Indonesia's Presidential Communication Body (Bakom) has clarified that President Prabowo Subianto's recent international itinerary was exclusively a four-day trip to France. The visit, which took place from May 26 to May 29, 2026, was the sole confirmed destination, according to Bakom head Muhammad Qodari.

Qodari explicitly denied reports circulating among the public that suggested Prabowo would visit other nations, such as Italy. "From the beginning, there was no statement from the Indonesian government that the President would go to Italy," he stated in a written release on Sunday, May 31, 2026. He emphasized that any potential deviations from the official schedule would only be considered official if announced by the government.

The clarification comes after conflicting information emerged. Earlier, Sugiat Santoso, a spokesperson for the Gerindra Party, had indicated that Prabowo's European tour would extend to Austria and Hungary following his engagements in France. Santoso had described these three nations as having "strategic positions needed by Indonesia" and suggested the visits aimed to build political closeness, particularly with France's military and technological strength.

Santoso had also framed Prabowo's travels as an exercise in "free and active politics" through proactive diplomacy. He further suggested that Prabowo's engagement with French President Emmanuel Macron signaled Indonesia's independent stance, not aligning with either the United States or China, especially concerning advanced weaponry cooperation. However, Bakom's statement now firmly limits the scope of the presidential visit to France.
