Indonesia’s Rice Production Edges Up in January-April 2026, BPS Data Shows

Indonesia produced 14.03 million tons of rice between January and April 2026, according to the Central Statistics Agency’s fixed figures. The total rose by 16,810 tons, or 0.12 percent, from 14.01 million tons during the same period a year earlier.

The increase followed a rise in paddy production, which reached 24.36 million tons of harvested dry grain, up 28,765 tons, or 0.12 percent, from 2025. The harvested area also expanded to 4.51 million hectares, an increase of 19,182 hectares, or 0.43 percent.

Monthly rice production stood at 1.73 million tons in January, 2.88 million tons in February, 5.02 million tons in March and 4.40 million tons in April. Paddy production followed a similar pattern, reaching 3.01 million tons of harvested dry grain in January, 5.01 million tons in February, 8.71 million tons in March and 7.63 million tons in April.

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the government would work to maintain production momentum as farmers face the dry season and the possibility of El Niño. “We are going down to the field and installing pumps. We must not give up. We must not let farmers work alone. We must step in,” he said.

The Agriculture Ministry has strengthened mitigation measures so water shortages do not disrupt planting or reduce farm productivity. The first four months’ figures provide a basis for sustaining production in the following period, as the sector prepares for more difficult water conditions.
