Indonesia targets Asian Games 2026 badminton gold by maximizing men's team strength

Indonesia's badminton federation has set its 20-player squad for the 2026 Asian Games with a clear priority: chase the men's team gold while producing its best possible result in the women's team event.

The roster includes 10 men and 10 women. The men's team features Jonatan Christie, Alwi Farhan, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, Muhamad Yusuf, Fajar Alfian, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, Leo Rolly Carnando, Daniel Marthin, Nikolaus Joaquin and Amri Syahnawi.

The women's team comprises Putri Kusuma Wardani, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan, Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari, Rachel Allessya Rose, Febi Setianingrum, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma, Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Nita Violina Marwah.

The inclusion of Fadia and Joaquin in this composition is also part of our strategy to fulfill PP PBSI's main priority, namely pursuing the men's team title and achieving the best result in the women's team event.

Eng Hian, head of development and performance at PP PBSI, said the selections followed a comprehensive assessment of each player's form, physical condition, technical ability and the team's needs. He said the inclusion of Fadia and Joaquin formed part of the strategy to pursue the men's team title and deliver the strongest result possible in the women's team event.

PBSI also revised the individual-event entries after an administrative mistake placed Marthin in mixed doubles and Joaquin in men's doubles. Marthin will remain in men's doubles with Leo Rolly Carnando, while Joaquin will play mixed doubles with Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. The federation said INASGOC had approved the correction, and it was waiting for the official Asian Games website to update its system.
