Indonesia to Compete in 35 Sports at 2026 Asian Games

Indonesia is gearing up to send a contingent of 432 athletes to compete across 35 sports at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The event is scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) has confirmed the composition of the national contingent, although the specific list of athletes is yet to be announced.

According to KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari, all athletes selected for the contingent have undergone maximum preparation and selection processes. "All athletes departing have gone through maximum selection and preparation processes. Now is the time for them to perform with confidence, give their best, and make Indonesia proud," Okto stated in a written release on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The 35 sports Indonesia will participate in include archery, athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, rowing, cycling, esports, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karate, modern pentathlon, padel, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, squash, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, teqball, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and mixed martial arts (MMA) within combat sports. Indonesia will not participate in eight other sports: baseball/softball, breaking, cricket, football, handball, kabaddi, rugby, and sailing.

The 2026 Asian Games will feature 469 medal events across 43 sports and 71 disciplines. This edition will see the debut of several new sports, including BMX freestyle, MMA, padel, surfing, teqball, and virtual taekwondo. Notably, Indonesia will only compete in MMA within the combat sports category, which offers six gold medals. Boxing, fencing, and table tennis will be funded independently by their respective federations and partners, but will still receive the same support as part of Team Indonesia. The contingent will also include 148 coaches and officials, along with 32 personnel from the Chef de Mission's team.
