Indonesia to Deploy AI Learning System in People's Schools by 2026

Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs is collaborating with Universitas Brawijaya to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) system for its "Sekolah Rakyat" (People's Schools). This initiative, born from the Artificial Intelligence Talent Factory (AITF) program by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), aims to enhance learning and curriculum management.

Robben Rico, Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, stated that the AI system will assist school principals and teachers in creating curricula, managing lessons, and developing pre- and post-test questions. The ministry plans to implement this technology in 178 Sekolah Rakyat starting in the 2026/2027 academic year. The program will also involve direct support for over 5,000 teachers across Indonesia.

In principle, the governance covers from upstream to downstream. This is one example that we will develop. We have agreed to bring the application to 178 Sekolah Rakyat that will operate in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The AI system will be integrated with the existing Learning Management System (LMS) in the Sekolah Rakyat to foster digital literacy. The Ministry of Social Affairs has committed to ensuring equitable access to this technology and will provide proper funding for its realization. The goal is for all innovations developed by AITF participants to be fully implemented by the end of 2026.

The AITF program, a collaboration between Komdigi and several universities including Universitas Brawijaya, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, focuses on different development areas based on field needs. Universitas Brawijaya's contribution specifically targets the Sekolah Rakyat and social assistance programs for the East Java Provincial Government.

We at the Ministry of Social Affairs, with the permission of the Minister of Social Affairs, will ensure that the implementation of this program can be assisted and covered with proper funding. This is a prototype that must be realized in the form of a real application.
