Indonesia to Launch Integrated National Schools in 17 Regions by 2026

Indonesia is set to roll out Integrated National Schools in 17 regencies and cities starting with the 2026-2027 academic year, according to the Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari. This move is part of the government's strategy to bolster the national education system and improve educational quality across the archipelago.

Qodari highlighted that only about 4 percent of sub-districts in Indonesia currently have junior and senior high schools with good quality standards. To address this gap, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is initiating the Integrated National School (SNT) program. SNT will combine junior and senior high school levels within a single, cohesive learning ecosystem, ensuring a more continuous educational experience for students.

For the initial phase, SNT will operate in 17 selected locations spread across 13 provinces. These include areas like Bogor Regency, Gowa Regency, the new capital city of Nusantara, and others. The program prioritizes new student admissions for 7th-grade junior high and 10th-grade senior high levels, with a preference for students residing in the regency or city where the SNT is located.

The SNT model is designed to serve as a regional education development hub. It will focus on enhancing teacher competencies, facilitating the sharing of best practices, optimizing learning resources, and fostering partnerships with surrounding schools. The curriculum will follow national standards, emphasizing in-depth learning through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) and sports, while also providing ample opportunities for students to develop their character, interests, talents, and potential.
