Indonesian Anti-Graft Agency Arrests 19 in West Lombok Sting Operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia has apprehended 19 individuals in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in a sting operation conducted on July 20. The operation targeted alleged corruption activities within the local government.

The team has apprehended a total of 19 people, seven of whom will be brought to the KPK's Red and White Building tonight for further examination.

Budi Prasetyo, a spokesperson for the KPK, confirmed that the Regent of West Lombok, Lalu Ahmad Zaini, was among those detained. Seven of the 19 individuals were transported to the KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Monday evening for more in-depth questioning and processing.

During the operation, the KPK seized significant evidence, including hundreds of millions of Indonesian Rupiah in cash and various documents believed to be connected to the alleged corruption case. Prasetyo indicated that the case involving Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini is suspected to be related to illicit receipts linked to projects within the West Lombok Regency administration.

The individuals detained include officials from the West Lombok regional government and several private sector representatives. The KPK stated that those brought to Jakarta were selected based on the necessity for further investigation into the case. The agency is continuing its efforts to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption.
