Indonesian cleric KH Ahmad Fudholi dies after Tangerang-Merak toll-road crash

KH Ahmad Fudholi, a prominent Indonesian cleric and preacher, died at Tangerang District Hospital on Sept. 7 after being treated for injuries from a traffic accident on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 4 near kilometre 63+800 B in Serang Regency, Banten. Fudholi was travelling toward Tangerang after taking part in a religious event in Pandeglang. Both he and the vehicle’s driver were injured.

Before his death, Fudholi received treatment at Hermina Ciruas Hospital in Serang Regency. His family had earlier said that his condition appeared to be improving and that he had regained consciousness. The family also asked the public not to distribute photos or videos taken during his treatment.

Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah urged people to respect the family’s privacy and avoid circulating personal documentation from the accident. Governor Andra Soni paid his respects at the family home in Tangerang Regency on Sept. 7.

Fudholi came from Sindang Sono village in Tangerang Regency and was known for preaching across Banten. He also led Al-Hijaiyyah Islamic boarding school, where he supported religious education and community activities.
