Susan Sarandon Says Her Support for Palestine Has Cost Her Hollywood Roles

Susan Sarandon says her outspoken support for Palestine continues to cost her work in Hollywood. At the Venice Film Festival, the Oscar-winning actor said she had lost film offers and that some agencies had asked others not to hire her.

“I am still losing film offers because there are agencies that keep asking people not to hire me. That is how power relations work in this industry. But I feel that I am still accepted by the general public, especially internationally,” Sarandon said while promoting The Echo Chamber.

She said international audiences had become more open in expressing support for Palestine, while parts of the film industry remained opposed to her position. “There has been a change in attitude among the general public, but there are still positions in my industry held by Zionists. Sarandon also thanked director Andrea Pallaoro for choosing her for the film. “I want to thank Andrea for not listening to those warnings,” she said.

The actor has previously described professional consequences linked to her activism. In 2023, United Talent Agency dropped her after comments at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York. She later apologized for the remarks. Earlier in 2026, Sarandon said at the Goya Awards that she had lost agency support after attending protests, speaking about Gaza and calling for a ceasefire.
