PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) is showcasing Indonesia's efforts in marine conservation on the global stage, representing the nation at the 16th International Coral Reef Symposium (ICRS) 2026 in Auckland, New Zealand. The company stands as the sole industrial representative from Indonesia at this prestigious international scientific forum.

Anggono Wijaya, Corporate Secretary of Pupuk Kaltim, stated that the company's participation underscores its dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. This commitment is demonstrated through its consistent efforts in marine ecosystem conservation, integrated with the empowerment of coastal communities. Pupuk Kaltim will present its extensive 15-year experience in coral reef restoration in the Tebok Batang area of Bontang City. This program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 14, which focuses on Life Below Water. "We believe the future of marine ecosystems cannot be protected by one party alone. Therefore, Pupuk Kaltim will continue to be present, hand in hand, to ensure our marine resources remain sustainable and preserved," Anggono added.

Astri Agustina, a representative from the Pupuk Kaltim delegation, explained that the company is presenting two scientific papers at the symposium, which convenes over 2,100 delegates from 90 countries. The presentations include an oral presentation titled "Quindecennial Consecutively Collaborative Coral Restoration" and a scientific poster titled "Integration Coral Restoration through Long-Term Stakeholder Engagement and its Independence Governance."

These works detail Pupuk Kaltim's comprehensive approach, integrating ecological, social, governance, and economic sustainability aspects for coastal communities into its coral reef restoration initiatives. The program, initiated in 2011 due to over 50 percent coral damage in Bontang waters from unsustainable fishing practices, involves the construction of artificial reef modules and coral transplantation, with continuous ecological and social monitoring. The restoration efforts have successfully increased biodiversity, with 57 families of coral fish identified in the managed conservation area.
