Indonesian Defense Minister hosts Chinese counterpart in Jakarta

Indonesia's Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, officially received his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Dong Jun, at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on Friday morning. The arrival of Dong Jun, who had landed in Bali the previous day, marked a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

The meeting was part of a broader agenda that includes the Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue and the second 2+2 dialogue, a format involving the foreign and defense ministers of both countries. This series of discussions aims to foster strategic cooperation and address key issues of mutual interest.

Upon arrival at the Ministry of Defense, Admiral Dong Jun was greeted with a state ceremony, including the playing of both national anthems and a joint inspection of troops. During the ceremony, both ministers paid their respects at a statue of Bung Karno, a prominent figure in Indonesian history, located in the front courtyard of the ministry.

Dong Jun's visit also coincides with the presence of China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who arrived in Indonesia on Thursday evening and was welcomed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono. The concurrent visits underscore the importance both nations place on strengthening their bilateral relations across various sectors.
