Indonesian Independence Ceremony Held at Border Post, Serasan Becomes Export Gateway

Indonesia marked its 81st Independence Day with a solemn ceremony held at the Serasan Border Post (PLBN) in the Riau Islands province. The event, which took place on Monday, August 17, 2026, underscored the significance of border regions in bolstering national sovereignty and driving development. The ceremony brought together local communities, students, civil servants, and members of the military and police, reflecting a unified national spirit. Makhruzi Rahman, Secretary of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), presided over the ceremony, delivering a message from the Minister of Home Affairs, who also heads the BNPP. The theme for this year's celebration was "Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous." During the ceremony, President Joko Widodo's message emphasized the critical role of border posts in strengthening the national economy. He urged the optimization of PLBNs as key export channels for Indonesian commodities. "We must utilize the National Border Posts as one of the national export gateways. Our target is to flood neighboring countries with various domestically produced commodities," Rahman stated, conveying the President's directive. The reinforcement of economic functions in border areas requires downstream strategies to create new supply chains, connecting production centers directly to these frontier regions.
