Indonesian Islamic Group Urges Contextual Approach to University Hijab Debate

KH Masyhuril Khamis, Chairman of the Central Board of Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah, has called for a balanced perspective on the controversy surrounding the use of hijabs by female candidates at the Defense University (Unhan). He urged the public to consider the issue within its proper context and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Khamis highlighted the critical importance of religious education and the cultivation of faith-based character in the younger generation. He further asserted that strengthening religious values is crucial for building the nation's moral foundation. Khamis suggested that a weak sense of faith can contribute to various deviant behaviors, including corruption, gambling, and adultery. Therefore, he advised against hasty judgments regarding the Unhan hijab issue.
