Indonesian Lawmaker Urges Faster Public Facility Recovery in Nagekeo Post-Earthquake

Bambang Haryo Soekartono (BHS), a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, has called for an urgent acceleration in the recovery of public facilities in Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, which were damaged by a recent earthquake. While acknowledging the central and regional governments' efforts in the post-disaster recovery, BHS stressed the critical need for speed.

He highlighted that numerous public facilities, including schools, hospitals, places of worship, roads, ports, and housing, suffered damage. BHS met with local officials, including the Regent, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Military District Commander (Dandim), and representatives from the Ministry of Defense, to discuss the situation.

And the need for acceleration of recovery by the government for the repair of facilities, especially schools, hospitals, places of worship, road infrastructure, ports, and residents' housing.

BHS expressed appreciation for the ongoing assistance, such as health services, public kitchens, trauma healing, and the 'Free Nutritious Meal' program. However, he insisted that the next crucial step is to ensure the prompt repair of all damaged public facilities to restore essential services to the 113 villages across 13 sub-districts in Nagekeo. BHS stated he would convey the aspirations of the Nagekeo Regent and Deputy Regent to the relevant DPR Commission and coordinate with government agencies responsible for disaster management and infrastructure recovery.
