Indonesian Lawmakers Suspect Criminal Network After 995 Weapons Found at School

Indonesian lawmakers are demanding a comprehensive police investigation following the unsettling discovery of 995 weapons and narcotics at a private school in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Soedeson Tandra, a member of DPR Commission III, expressed strong suspicion that a criminal network is exploiting educational facilities for illicit storage.

From where did the weapons originate and what will they be used for must be investigated. Including the discovery of narcotics which are very threatening to the younger generation. This is important so that we can anticipate criminal plans that endanger national security.

"We must find out the origin of these weapons and their intended use, including the discovery of narcotics that severely threaten the younger generation. This is crucial for anticipating dangerous criminal plans that endanger national security," Tandra stated. He emphasized that the presence of hundreds of weapons serves as a stark warning to security forces tasked with maintaining national stability. Tandra urged the police not only to apprehend the perpetrators but also to dismantle any structured network operating behind the scenes.

We regret that items like these were found in a school where the nation's generation is educated, especially firearms and narcotics. We ask the police to investigate thoroughly, as this violates the Emergency Law with very severe penalties.

Hermawanto, the legal counsel for the school, revealed that the 995 weapons, including firearms and ammunition, were found in the former foundation chairman's office in July. He explained the room was opened for school needs, leading to the discovery. However, Alhadid Endar Putra, identified as the owner of the weapons and Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, asserted that all the airsoft guns were legally permitted and had been stored since 2020 for a shooting club. He claimed the club became inactive after the advisor's death in 2022, a point contested by the school, which denies having such an extracurricular activity.
