Indonesian 'Merah Putih' cooperatives to become central distribution points for government programs

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a comprehensive government effort to bolster "Merah Putih" cooperatives, designating them as central hubs for distributing state programs and subsidized goods. The directive, issued during a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, emphasizes the crucial role these cooperatives will play in driving community economies. Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) announced that all ministries, agencies, the TNI, and Polri are mandated to provide full support to the "Merah Putih" cooperative network. "The President ensures that the Village Merah Putih Cooperatives, Neighborhood Merah Putih Cooperatives, and Fisherman Merah Putih Cooperatives must be supported by all ministries and agencies. Also supported by the TNI and Polri, who are asked to help fully support the Village/Neighborhood Merah Putih Cooperatives to succeed as government infrastructure," Zulhas stated. He further explained that these cooperatives will function as the primary channel for all government-related distributions, including subsidized items and aid. This integrated approach aims to ensure that resources reach their intended recipients efficiently and accurately. "Government infrastructure, meaning all subsidized goods, government aid, all distribution will later be through the Village Merah Putih Cooperative or the Neighborhood Merah Putih Cooperative," Zulhas added. The initiative signifies a strategic move to streamline government outreach and economic empowerment at the grassroots level, leveraging existing cooperative structures.
