Indonesian Military Builds Boreholes to Boost Food Security and Water Access

Residents of Parangjoro Village in Sukoharjo, Central Java, have seen their long-standing water scarcity begin to ease thanks to the TNI Manunggal Membangun Desa (TMMD) Reguler ke-129 program. The Sukoharjo Military District (Kodim 0726) is constructing two boreholes in Lumbungsilayu and Menur hamlets to support agricultural irrigation and provide clean water.

This initiative is a tangible demonstration of Kodim 0726's commitment to addressing fundamental community needs and bolstering food security in rural areas. Soldiers from the TMMD task force and local residents worked side-by-side in a communal effort, reflecting a strong synergy aimed at delivering targeted solutions.

The collaborative spirit has already yielded results, with one borehole successfully producing water. Although undergoing purification, the initial flow was met with gratitude by the villagers. For local farmers, the emerging water supply offers renewed hope for maintaining crop productivity and facing the planting season with greater optimism, serving as a testament to the TMMD program's impact.

Dansatgas TMMD Reg Ke-129, Lt. Col. Inf. Reza Sahputra, emphasized that TMMD focuses on providing long-term benefits. "We want every TMMD activity to truly provide benefits that can be felt by the community in the long term," he stated. "When access to water is met, agriculture can develop, the community's economy can move, and welfare will also increase. That is the main goal we continue to strive for through TMMD."

Sahputra further highlighted that the successful construction is a result of the "gotong royong" (mutual cooperation) spirit between Kodim 0726, the village government, and the community. "TMMD proves that village problems can be solved through togetherness," he said. "We hope these boreholes will not only be a source of water but also a source of hope that can increase agricultural yields, strengthen food security, and benefit the community in the long term."
