Indonesian Ministries Discuss Jet Fuel Prices to Keep Airfares Affordable

Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is actively engaging with the Ministry of Transportation to address the impact of high aviation fuel prices on air connectivity and national economic activity. The collaboration aims to ensure the sustainability of the national aviation industry, which is crucial for the tourism sector.

"We are communicating with the Ministry of Transportation and the domestic aviation industry to jointly maintain the national aviation industry ecosystem, which will have a positive impact on sustainable tourism sector growth," stated the Ministry of Tourism. This joint effort seeks to mitigate the effects of rising jet fuel costs on domestic airfare.

To keep ticket prices accessible for travelers and encourage domestic tourism under the #BanggaBerwisataDiIndonesia campaign, the government is exploring various mitigation strategies. These include implementing efficiency measures within the aviation sector and managing fuel surcharges. A recent Ministry of Transportation decree allows airlines to apply fuel surcharges up to 50 percent of the upper fare limit, following a significant increase in jet fuel prices in May 2026.
