Indonesian Navy hosts speedboat race to boost North Kalimantan's maritime potential

The Indonesian Navy's Koarmada XIII hosted a vibrant speedboat race in the waters of Tarakan, North Kalimantan, aiming to strategically boost the province's maritime potential. This event served a dual purpose, marking the first anniversary of Koarmada XIII and the 81st Independence Day of Indonesia.

Vice Commander of Koarmada XIII, First Admiral TNI Bambang Kuncoro, emphasized that the race was more than just a sporting event. He noted the high enthusiasm from 39 participants hailing from North Kalimantan and beyond, underscoring the significant potential of the sea for development. "We hope this speedboat race will not only be a sporting event but also help introduce North Kalimantan's maritime potential. This event is part of Koarmada XIII's participation in enhancing the potentials that exist in North Kalimantan, both economically and in tourism," Kuncoro stated.

Governor of North Kalimantan, Zainal A. Paliwang, who officially opened the competition, added that the event holds broader significance. Beyond being a competition, it serves as a meeting point for speedboat users to strengthen relationships. "These 40 HP speedboats are widely used by coastal communities as transportation to their fish farms. So, this event also becomes a gathering for its users," the Governor explained. He also pointed out the economic impact generated by the crowds, benefiting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in the vicinity. The provincial government affirmed its support for community activities that provide entertainment and stimulate the local economy.

With a total prize pool of Rp150 million, the competition was lively. Governor Zainal reiterated that the race's essence transcends mere speed, successfully packaging an activity integral to coastal life into a sporting, entertainment, and economic driver. He expressed hope that such events, if continuously developed, could become annual agendas and effectively showcase the character of North Kalimantan's coastal communities to participants and visitors from diverse areas.
