Indonesian Navy to Receive Aircraft Carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi in 2026

Indonesia is set to significantly bolster its naval capabilities with the arrival of the aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi (C551) on September 20, 2026. The Ministry of Defense confirmed the acquisition, marking a major milestone for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).

Marsda Hendrikus Haris Haryanto, Director General of Defense Strength at the Ministry of Defense, stated the planned arrival date during a meeting with Commission I of the DPR (House of Representatives). This acquisition is poised to enhance Indonesia's maritime defense strategy and operational capacity.

To ensure the carrier is fully operational upon its arrival, extensive preparations are underway. A key aspect of this preparation involves sending 100 Indonesian naval personnel to Italy. These personnel will undergo specialized training to become the crew members of the Giuseppe Garibaldi, ensuring they are proficient in operating and maintaining the sophisticated vessel.
