Indonesian Nutrition Agency Denies Corruption in Electric Motorcycle Purchase

The Indonesian National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has refuted claims that its purchase of 21,000 electric motorcycles for nutrition fulfillment units was funded by corruption. Agustina Arumsari, BGN's Deputy Head and spokesperson, asserted that the vehicles were acquired using state funds, not illicit money. She clarified that the ongoing investigation focuses on a potential price markup, with the exact amount of state losses still under calculation by investigators.

Arumsari explained that the BGN has already settled the budget for the electric motorcycles for 2025. During a presentation to the House of Representatives Commission IX, she disclosed that a down payment of Rp243.9 billion was made, followed by a subsequent payment of Rp167.5 billion. However, she noted that the vehicles cannot yet be officially recorded as assets because the procurement is still under investigation by the prosecutor's office.

The Attorney General's Office is currently pursuing two corruption cases within BGN. These involve the alleged buying and selling of kitchen points for the Free Nutritious Meal program and the procurement of motorcycles. Former BGN Head Dandan Hindayana, along with two former Deputy Heads, Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung, have been named as suspects. Additionally, Andri Mulyono, Commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal, the company supplying the electric motorcycles, is also a suspect. He is accused of manipulating and colluding with BGN officials from the project's inception through to the disbursement of funds.
