Indonesian Parliament to summon police over suspicious death of ex-officer's wife

The Indonesian House of Representatives' Commission III (DPR RI) will summon the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut) and the Medan City Police (Polresta Medan) to discuss the suspicious death of WL, the former wife of a police officer in Medan. The family has raised concerns, suggesting her death, which was initially attributed to suicide by firearm, warrants further investigation.

Habiburokhman, the head of Commission III DPR RI, stated that the commission will oversee the case to ensure the investigation proceeds with objectivity and professionalism. The DPR plans to hold a Public Hearing (RDPU) on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to gather direct explanations from the police and hear testimony from the victim's family.

Commission III has urged the North Sumatra Police and Medan City Police to conduct a transparent investigation into the case. Habiburokhman highlighted that the family's doubts and perceived irregularities necessitate a thorough and open inquiry. "Given the doubts and irregularities felt by the victim's family, Commission III urges Polda North Sumatra, including Polresta Medan and all ranks handling this case, to thoroughly investigate this matter transparently," he stated.

The DPR also implored law enforcement officials not to conceal any facts during the investigation and to avoid hasty conclusions. "Let there not be a single fact hidden, and do not make arbitrary or hasty conclusions.
