Indonesian Police Deploy 200 Officers to Block Jakarta-Bound Protesters

Authorities in Tangerang, Indonesia, have deployed around 200 joint personnel to prevent a planned protest in Jakarta on August 27. The security forces are patrolling and blocking access points, including toll gates and train stations, to intercept individuals, particularly students, who intend to travel to the capital.

Kompol Raden Mochammad Sofian, Head of Operations for the Tangerang City Police, stated that preventive measures are concentrated on critical points identified as potential routes for protesters. This includes border areas, toll road access, and several train stations like Daru, Tiga Raksa, and Cikoya. The operation involves not only police but also support from the TNI, the Transportation Agency, and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP).

We are preparing to anticipate masses going to Jakarta, especially in the Tangerang region. Of course, we anticipate students, both junior and senior high school students, participating in the action.

Despite the heightened security, police are emphasizing persuasive tactics, urging young people not to join the protest in Jakarta. The goal is to ensure the demonstration at the DPR RI building is conducted constructively and peacefully. The duration of these strict security measures will be evaluated based on the evolving situation, with initial plans extending until Sunday.

To maximize security, the Tangerang City Police are not working alone. Approximately 200 police personnel are supported by elements of the TNI, the Transportation Agency, and the Public Order Agency to carry out large-scale patrols.
