Indonesian President offers condolences over death of Thailand's Princess Bajrakitiyabha

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand following the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha. The President expressed his sympathies during a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

"I would like to express our deepest condolences, on behalf of Indonesia and on my own behalf, to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha," President Prabowo stated. Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, passed away in June 2026 at the age of 47. She had been in a coma for nearly three years prior to her death.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha was a distinguished legal scholar, holding two postgraduate degrees from Cornell University. She had a notable career as a prosecutor and served as Chief of Staff of the King's Personal Security Royal Guard Command with the rank of general.

In a reciprocal gesture, Prime Minister Anutin offered condolences to Indonesia regarding a disastrous fire aboard the passenger ship Mutiara Sentosa II. The meeting between President Prabowo and Prime Minister Anutin marked the latter's first official state visit to Indonesia. Following their discussions, the leaders adopted the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030, formalizing a framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation. This roadmap aims to achieve US$20 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, building on the official upgrade of relations to a strategic partnership in 2025.
