Indonesian Short Film "Autosave" Premieres at New York Asian Film Festival

The Indonesian short film "Autosave" made its world premiere at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), held from July 10-26, 2026. The 15-minute and 30-second narrative fiction film, produced by ADEPTLAB, delves into profound themes of loss, memory, the complexities of father-son relationships, and the resilience required to embrace life after grief.

Directed by Imanuel Bolaman and produced by Martin Simbolon, with M. Khaerun Zuhry Radjilun serving as executive producer, "Autosave" features performances from Dru Prawiro Sasono as the teenage Bintang, Den Bagus Sasono as young Bintang, Dwi Sasono as Papa, and Litany Audrey Nainggolan as Mama. The film centers on Bintang, who, at 19, still carries the weight of losing his father at age eleven.

Years later, Bintang revisits a video game console they once shared, a game left unfinished by his father. Through this digital medium, Bintang confronts lingering memories, the pain of his loss, and finds the courage to reconcile with his past. The narrative uses the game as a catalyst for his emotional journey toward healing.

The New York Asian Film Festival is a prominent platform for Asian cinema in North America, with screenings taking place at various venues across New York City. This year's festival also featured other significant Asian films, including Yeon Sang Ho's "Colony" from South Korea, which opened the festival. "Autosave" was selected through an international curation process and screened on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the Shorts Program: Lost & Found at the Walter Reade Theater, Film at Lincoln Center.
