Indonesian State Firm Aids Earthquake Victims, Boosts Community Resilience

PT Pupuk Indonesia, alongside its Relawan Bakti BUMN (RBB) volunteers, has delivered crucial disaster response assistance to communities in Ruteng, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, following a recent earthquake. This initiative underscores a commitment by Pupuk Indonesia and other State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to support affected populations and enhance their preparedness for future natural disasters.

The presence of RBB this year has special meaning because the volunteers are present when the Ruteng community is facing an earthquake disaster. Therefore, RBB activities are not only for community empowerment but also for providing assistance and disaster response activities.

The RBB program's activities in Ruteng focused on providing immediate relief. Volunteers distributed 344 basic food packages and 688 blankets to those impacted by the earthquake in Desa Meler and Desa Belang Turi. Additionally, essential health services, including medical examinations and the distribution of necessary medications, were made available to residents in need.

Tina T. Kemala Intan, Director of Human Resources and General Affairs at Pupuk Indonesia, highlighted the special significance of this year's RBB, emphasizing its dual role in community empowerment and disaster response. She noted that the volunteers are adapting their programs to include educational components, aiming to better equip the community to handle major seismic events, especially given that Ruteng experienced a significant earthquake for the first time. Pupuk Indonesia hopes these efforts will alleviate the burden on the affected residents and aid in rebuilding their daily lives and resilience.

Volunteers are expected to adapt the programs that will be implemented to be educational programs so that the community is more responsive to major earthquakes that have just occurred for the first time in Ruteng.

Beyond immediate disaster relief, the RBB 2026 initiative in Ruteng also strengthens Pupuk Indonesia's ongoing community empowerment efforts. This includes the "Tani Maju Makmur Sejahtera" (TAJUMASE) program, which focuses on agricultural development to boost farmer welfare, and the "SEMAI" program, designed to enhance the capacity and self-sufficiency of the disability community at Santu Damian. These programs aim to foster long-term development and improve the livelihoods of the communities involved.
