Indonesian Ulama Council condemns Israeli settlers' incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent incursion by thousands of Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in East Jerusalem. Prof. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, head of MUI's Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, labeled the act a severe provocation that threatens the sanctity of the holy site and violates its legal status.

Sudarnoto linked the settlers' actions to the support of right-wing Israeli groups, particularly citing National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir as an extremist figure openly hostile to Palestinians and Muslims. MUI views the repeated incursions as a systematic effort by extremist Zionists to gain control over Al-Aqsa, seeing it as a key step toward asserting dominance over Palestine and Jerusalem. "This occupation and incursion demonstrate Zionist authoritarianism that provokes right-wing Jewish groups to control the Al-Aqsa Mosque. For them, this is a crucial key to the complete conquest of Palestine and Jerusalem," Sudarnoto explained.

In response, MUI is calling on the Indonesian government to engage in more active diplomatic efforts, collaborating with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the broader international community, to safeguard Al-Aqsa Mosque.
